Systems That Disappear
Lighting doubles the hours a landscape is usable. Irrigation is what keeps a six-figure planting investment alive through a dry August. Both are usually treated as add-ons. Both should be designed at the same time as everything else.

Lighting & Irrigation Across Durham Region

Ontario irrigation is a seasonal system, not a permanent one. Everything installed here has to be drained and blown out before freeze and recommissioned in spring, which means the layout, valve placement, and drainage detailing determine how much trouble the system causes for the next twenty years. Lighting has its own regional argument: this far north, useful outdoor hours collapse to almost nothing by November unless the property is lit. A well-designed lighting scheme is what makes a landscape worth looking at for the five months nobody is standing in it.
How much does landscape lighting cost? +

Does a smart irrigation system actually save water? +
